Moses Gate Country Park, Bolton
Moses Gate Country Park is located in Farnworth, a town in Greater Manchester, Bolton England. The park is not in the town center, but rather a few miles from Bolton town center. It was built in 1975 with an estimated area of three hundred hectares. This park is also known as Crompton Lodges. Since its inception, it’s been managed by Bolton Metropolitan Borough of Bolton.
Moses Gate Country Park has three lodges reserved for different activities. One lodge is set aside for fishing, the second one is for water sport activities, and the third lodge is put aside to harbor migratory birds and general wildlife found in the park. For you to participate in the water activities, you have to obtain permits from Bolton Metropolitan Borough.
Activities to do in the park
- Water activities. These activities include canoeing, fishing among others. Though only permit holders are allowed to enjoy these activities, people can acquire the permits from the local council.
- Cycling, walking, and dog walking. The park has tracks that are well maintained, well signed, and plenty of them. One can cycle from the Bolton town which close by or load the bicycle in your car to the park and park it at no charge. You can enjoy solo walks as your marvel at autumn colors or as well bring your dog and enjoy the breathtaking views in the park.
- Picnics. One can bring a picnic basket and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lake as you feed the ducks and swans. They are numerous in the lake. There are weirs that create streams, making it even more relaxing and calming to watch.
- Wildlife. One can spot roe deer hopping around, some crested newt, and numerous bird species. Though the birds migrate depending on the seasons, there is always a variety to watch from the bird hide.
The park is family-friendly, and this means that children can enjoy the park too. There is a playground installed with a long slide for kids to enjoy. The park has plenty of sitting spaces from the numerous benches strategically placed in the park. The lawns are well done, offering more resting options. There is an ice cream van that sells ice cream at a reasonable price, making this park a more relatable space for children. The park also has toilet facilities close by and a café where you can find something to snack on.
